Approach to the new year

Here I sit sipping champagne and thinking about the past year.  I last blogged on January 13, 2013, almost one year ago.  Often when out on my walks I think about blogging and compose great posts in my head.  Then I get home and promptly get side tracked with other tasks and the post never materializes.  Obviously I haven't made them a priority.

I need to prioritize them because I think they are cathartic.  It reminds me of keeping a diary in my teenage years.  Having your ideas and thoughts written validates them.  Provides a history of where you have been, what you have been thinking and provides a glimpse into the future.  And it helps keep you accountable to goals, dreams, ideas you have for another day.

In 2014 I will reach a milestone birthday.  The big 50.  I have no negative connotations or worries about turning 50.  I don't mind my gray hair or becoming eligible for AARP.  What I do mind is going through life and not making a difference.  How do I make a difference? This is something I think about often.

As 2014 marks a banner year for me, I will use the year to challenge myself, find myself and make a difference.  Not entirely sure where to begin or how, but I think blogging is a start.  It forces me to not only think about, but compose my thoughts in an orderly fashion with the ultimate goal of enlightenment.

As 2013 comes to a close, let the journey begin for an enlightened 2014.
